Empty Bowls, the annual event to raise awareness of hunger in the community, is the biggest fundraiser of the year for The Neighbors' Place. It's an opportunity to enjoy local soups and take home a piece of art in the form of a clay bowl. There is live music, plenty of silent auction items -- and, new this year, we're selling raffle tickets. Win Packers tickets, jewelry or a flatscreen TV.
Empty Bowls is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at Wausau West High School. Mark your calendars, and tell your friends. Share our event on Facebook here . And we'll see you there.
On Aug. 31, the latest delivery of food donations came to our front door courtesy of Peyton's Promise. The local nonprofit was born 12 years ago when 8-year-old Peyton Medick was inspired to try to help others. Peyton has grown up and gone to college, and the Medick family no longer lives in the area, but still Peyton's promise continues to help. Its August donation -- from residents all over the area, and partner grocery stores -- amounted to 736 pounds of food for our pantry. Thanks to Peyton and to all for helping care for our neighbors.
We love all of our donors, large and small, but wanted to give a special shout-out to WSAW-TV for organizing its "Share Your Holidays in July" drive at The 400 Block this summer. With individual donations and a $2,500 grant from Ho Chunk Gaming, donated $4,164 to help fight hunger in the community. Thanks!
Our food donations are down, and we're running low on some items that we usually have plenty of. Some needed donations include canned soup, beef stew, mac & cheese, and jelly .
Have more than you need in your pantry? Have the resources to pick up a few extras on your next grocery trip? We'd love to take your donations of any nonperishable food items, and especially these needed things.
Did you know you can help fight hunger in Wausau every time you shop at Amazon? The best part is, there's no cost to you. Click on this link when you do your Amazon shopping and The Neighbors' Place receives a donation.
