“Last month more than 80 public, corporate, and community service volunteers shared over 1,500 hours with our Community Learning Center, TNP Gardens, Food Pantry & Bank, and Furniture & Basic Needs Bank programs. According to Independent Sector, our volunteers contributed nearly $38,000!” said Evan Cass, Volunteer and Events Coordinator at The Neighbors’ Place.
It’s hard to put a dollar value on volunteer time, because volunteers provide support on a variety of projects at different time periods. Wisconsin values volunteers at $22.48/ hour. Many of you are probably thinking, “What?! That’s a crazy amount!” Well, according to the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the value of volunteer services is calculated from grant proposals, annual reports, and statements for internal and external purposes.
The Neighbors’ Place needs an average of 76 hours of volunteer support each day to run the many programs offered. Currently we need volunteers in the following roles:
Donations and Delivery Drivers (help with the pick up & delivery of household donations throughout the greater Wausau area. Assist those transitioning out of homelessness, shelters, and poverty. A valid driver’s license and the ability to lift heavy items are required. A flexible schedule is appreciated, but not required. Must be 18 for this volunteer role.)
Receiver and Sorter Volunteer (help receive, sort, and organize donations arriving in our Furniture & Basic Needs Bank. This also involves greeting & assisting donors and processing their donations. Every donation makes a difference! The ability to work with a diverse population, follow direction, and lift modest-weight items are required.)
